EARS – Environmental Alarm Response System

Glencore

Challenge

Existing manual processes for managing environmental alarms and community complaints are inefficient and are leading to:
• Reduced tool time
• Inflated alarm and complaint response time
• Propensity for human-error
• Potential compliance issues in relation to responding and actioning findings from complaints and alarms
• Double handling in the feedback loop between Supervisors and E&C

Solution

• A solution suite consisting of an iOS application for field Supervisors (OCE and CHPP) and a responsive Fiori application for the E&C Department, Control Room Operators and Dispatch Operators hosted on Glencore’s SAP BTP
• The EARS solution aggregates disparate IoT sensor data, providing Supervisors with the ability to view, validate and respond to alerts and complaints from their phone
• The E&C Department can ensure governance is maintained, investigating exceptions and managing complainants

Outcome

• Increased time for supervisors to spend on operational activities
• Decreased human error in completing multiple forms by hand
• Decreased human error by closing the time-sensitive feedback loop between reporting by supervisor and audit by EO
• Increase efficiency and accuracy of reporting by linking interfaces (SMS, email, paper forms, audit sheet) in a single location
• Improvement to quality and level of responses leading to more efficient compliance reporting
• Decrease double handling and wasted effort

Integrated platform that combines multiple data sources (SAP, Non-SAP, IOT devices) for employees

This initiative is about giving decision making power to the employee by transforming the manual process into an efficient, user-friendly application that can access real time information anywhere in the mine at any time. To do this we leveraged the latest technology and services on SAP BTP. This project is a milestone for Glencore, opening the SAP BTP world to deliver value to the business into the future.
